General Plumbing in Teralba
Water Meter Installation Teralba
We install, replace and relocate water meters across town, plus the private-side supply lines that feed them. The work sits under general plumbing on the Teralba home page, which covers the full service list.
From the footpath a meter job looks simple. In practice it touches Hunter Water's connection requirements, the supply line running into the house, and sometimes whatever the ground is doing. All three belong on the quote before anyone digs.
What Meter Work Covers
A quick run-down of the jobs that land on this page:
New meter installations
Meter relocations
Supply line upgrades
Private-side repairs
Compliance work
Each one takes a different approval path, so we work out what yours needs before the quote lands.
Why Meter Jobs Here Run Deeper Than the Dig
The meter is the easy half. The line running from it into the house is where the story sits, and building age decides how that goes.
The old township pockets.
The newer estates.
How the Job Runs
- 1
Call and tell us
Ring (02) 4063 3438 and tell us what's going on in Teralba. We'll ask a few quick questions so the right gear is on the truck the first time.
- 2
Quote before work
You get the price before anything starts. No call-out fee, no hourly surprises, you approve the quote or we shake hands and leave, no charge.
- 3
Meter set and connected
We locate the main, expose the connection point, and set the meter with the isolation valves and backflow protection Hunter Water expects. Excavation stays tight and the ground goes back properly before we leave.
- 4
Backed, no questions asked
If something isn't up to standard afterwards, we come back and make it right, no questions asked. That's the standard every Teralba job is held to.
What Drives the Price
Four things move the number on a meter job, and all four go on the written quote:
Excavation and reinstatement
The supply line behind it
Hunter Water requirements
Access
No figure gets invented on the spot. You see the full price in writing before you approve anything.
When a Meter Reading Is Really a Leak
A meter doubles as the best leak detector on the property.
Turn off every tap, appliance and toilet, then watch it. If the dial still creeps, water is going somewhere it should not.
At the meter or the riser:
Along the buried supply line:
Homes on the reactive clay ground around Cockle Creek copping a climbing reading are worth acting on early, because soil movement stresses buried lines.
Where Meter Work Fits in the House
The meter feeds everything else, so it rarely sits alone on the job list:
If the meter itself is fine but water is going missing, start with leak detection. If a reno has changed the front of the house, that is the relocation conversation.
The run also reaches past the town boundary: Bolton Point, Argenton, Speers Point, Booragul and Woodrising all sit on the regular route.
Water Meter Installation Questions
Who owns the water meter on my property?
Hunter Water owns the meter itself. Everything on your side of it, including the pipework we install or move, is yours, and that is the part we handle.
When would a water meter need relocating?
Driveway widenings are the usual trigger. New fences and renovations follow close behind. If a meter sits where it can be damaged or blocked from reading, moving it is the fix.
Can you install a meter at a new home?
Yes, new builds are standard work. They need a compliant connection to Hunter Water's system, and we handle the private-side install so water is running before you move in.
How do I know if a leak is on my side of the meter?
Shut every tap and appliance off, then watch the meter. If it still moves, water is escaping on your side of the system, and we can trace the point for you.
Do you work in the older streets near the station?
We do, and often. Many of those homes still run corroding galvanised supply lines, so we check what feeds the house from the meter and quote the whole picture before digging.
How much does water meter work cost?
The call out costs nothing. The price arrives in writing before any tool comes out, and the quote breaks down excavation, compliance steps and every other line so nothing surprises you.
